Started out great, went downhill fast 2.5 rating By Anonymous ( Nov 09, 2018) Avon was a nice place to live. However, rapid urbanization was/is overwhelming the town. Crime has risen sharply, and the town went from being a well-kept tidy town, to a town with streets lined with litter, and quickly had a run down feel. The area doesn't have many fun thing ...Read More s to do, and to be frank, it's kind of boring. It's also a very noisy place with the train yard, but the newly constructed bridge helped eliminate the train noises. Also occasionally the wind blows just right where you get a pretty nasty sewage smell from the sewage plant off of 625. However, people here are mostly pretty nice. The amenities are great, virtually every store/chain restaurant you can think of can be found on Rockville Rd, and as of now, the schools are very good, but may follow the town's downhill trend soon.In short, if you want to get access to a better standard of living but don't have the money to live in Carmel or Westfield and such, Avon is a decent alternative. Safe city with nice people 4 rating By randompanda ( Sep 09, 2013) I live in Avon and have been for six years. This website gives it a D+ for crime which is wrong because the whole time I have lived here there has been one crime which was a robbery at a papa johns. The people here are extremely nice and have wonderful schools, they have 7 or 8 e ...Read More lementary schools which I think each are 5 star schools, 2 intermediate schools which are both 4 star schools, 2 middle schools which are both 4 stars, and one gigantic high school which is either 4 or 5 stars. They have great restaurants and is not far from downtown. Plainfield, which is connected to Avon has more of the attractions but i Plainfield is literally 3 minutes away from Avon. Plainfield has a big outdoor mall that is right by a great movie theater. So as a summary it has a wonderful community, almost no crime, pretty good housing market, good restaurants, good shopping, and is just a wonderful place to move!!
