Atascocita, TX City Review User Rating 4 rating By Anonymous ( Feb 17, 2015) Atascocita was once a very small community located right outside of the west side of Houston. However, with the exponential growth in the Houston area, Atascocita has kind of gotten lost in the sprawl. I have lived in Atascocita all of my life, and it seems that we have sort of l ...Read More ost a common identity. Most people only know this area now as the north Highway 6 area, near interstate 45. Now the community has become so mobile that it has not retained its communal sense. The one major complaint is that the thoroughfares like F. M. 1960 has not been updated to handle the traffic load. Because of this, at certain times of the day the traffic is so bad that I can only wait until off-hours to travel. This means that sometimes I have to leave earlier and return later. This is a considerable problem that has to be stated.

We are at least adjacent to interstate 45. This makes it easier to get to locations once the through streets have been forded. There are also a lot of restaurants, but it is much easier to leave the neighborhood to find nicer restaurants. I do not think that the community will return because the area has simply become a drive through area. However, there are neighborhoods that still exist, and they seem strong. The demographics has changed in many ways. The population is by far younger and a tad more transient. This lifestyle is not conducive to community building. Many of the nicer areas are seeming to become a part of nicer adjacent areas that would not be formally known as Atascocita. This is okay because it is still home to me. Also, because I travel a lot, it is nice to not have to then brave Houston's traffic. Read Less
