NASA used the city for extrusion of depleted and enriched uranium. Urban Meyer is from Ashtabula. The town is also referred to in a number of poems and songs, including Carl Sandburg's "Crossing Ohio when Poppies Bloom in Ashtabula." The town hosts an annual "Blessing of the Fleet" event. Bob Dylan also referred to Ashtabula on his "Blood on the Tracks" album.
The town suffers from high crime, low employment and sub-standard housing. It does have good education and an affordable cost of living. You might like the Bascule Bridge Grille, Rennick Meat Market, Crow's Nest or El Puente Mexican Restaurant. There are plenty of eating establishments in Ashtabula.
