Thinking Of An Early Retirement? User Rating 2.5 rating By Anonymous ( Feb 17, 2015) Alafaya, FL is known as one of the most in demand retirement spots in the United States. I stayed in this area with my grandparents every summer for fifteen years before they moved out of their retirement community there. When I was living in Alafaya, I enjoyed the low crime area ...Read More , friendly community, and proximity to the beach. I was fairly young while I lived there, (10-25) but I still enjoyed living in the area. The attractions are good for those that are retired, but no necessarily for younger people. However, while I lived in Alafaya, FL the community was top notch. Everyone was friendly, polite, and personable.

Some restaurants in the area are decent, but overall I would rate them as average. My favorite place was Goodfella's Pizzeria, although my grandparents did not like it as much as I did. The community there is centered towards those people that have already retired, so many of the restaurants are low key and open early for dinner. Alafaya is probably not the place for you if you love going out to bars and clubs every night. However, if you enjoy getting to know the people in your community, low crime areas, minimal traffic, and proximity to the beach I have to recommend Alafaya. In my opinion, this area is best suitable for those that are nearing or already at retirement. The shopping is centered around this demographic as well, so if you are younger in age and not looking for beach clothes, you may struggle some in this area. I personally am not at that time in my life, so living in Alafaya a couple of weeks out of the year is enough for me right now.
