Write a review about Tulsa Tell people what you like or don't like about Tulsa…
Not very good 1.5 rating By Anonymous ( Apr 26, 2023) Wow. I had a suspicion it wouldn’t be my favorite place to live but yikes did it let me down worse than I imagined. I just saw on the news that this city had raised x amount of millions of dollars in record tourism. I can’t figure out where the money went. The roads- no matte ...Read More r where you are, downtown, outskirts, main roads, side roads, major highways, doesn’t make a difference. The roads are the absolute worst quality I’ve ever seen in any major city. The jobs- there are none. You cannot find a high paying job here unless you are destroying your body to do so, and even that doesn’t get you more than $18 an hour – IF you are very lucky. Entertainment? They have a really nice casino that’s not even in the city. The one in the city is lame. I guess if you like BMX, or Bob Dylan stuff that’s here now. The main attraction is a park made for kids, and a museum nearby. They do have some arts and music stuff, but I personally think it’s overrated. Of the four major metro areas I have lived in my life, Tulsa ranks last in entertainment, or really any parameter I can come up (crime, shopping, opportunities, nightlife, fun, traffic, whatever) with except for cost of living. The state is represented well here… what I mean is:
Oklahoma ranks last in the nation in mental health. Try talking to someone about your issues and be prepared to have insults flung your direction. Going from a different state into OK is like going from adulthood back to middle school. OK is also 43rd in obesity, 48th in education. They are also last in smoking cessation. People are smoking everywhere. I’ve even witnessed people smoking inside at some places like it’s the 60’s. It’s rare, but I did see it. This place literally stinks. Also, if you want to see any natural beauty besides some trees and hills, you have to drive at least an hour. Oh, and you WILL have to drive. Public transportation is scant and even frowned upon by many. People are also extremely rude.
Another hilarious fact is that Oklahoma actually has and an abundance of resources and people who are willing to work hard. This SHOULD be a prosperous place, but it simply can’t be because all the money is locked up with the oil families, and instead of being investigated and countered, they are celebrated by the people they serve.
The only places good to go to in Tulsa are restaurants. A lot people here seem to enjoy the BBQ and Tex-Mex places the most. I personally don’t see much value there as I’ve had better (don’t tell them that, BBQ is their lifeblood) but if you want a flavored, fresh, hearty STEAK. This is the place. The waiters and waitresses across the board are amongst the friendliest, one of the few places that I’ve encountered friendly people here. Also, the average IQ in OK is around 95. This doesn’t seem like it would matter too much, right? Wrong. While a lot of people here have COMMON sense which is quite refreshing, but you really can’t have a conversation outside of football, church, anti-church, conservative politics, gossip, and small talk. They kind of just look at you funny like you’re from another planet as if they never heard anything outside of these areas before. Everyone seems like they’re in denial of how bad it is. This was corroborated by some of the younger folk I talked to. Gen Z generally also wants to leave and doesn’t understand what’s great. I don’t get it either. Don’t get me started on how Tulsa people thinks OKC sucks and Tulsa rules, vice-versa. Arguing between if OKC or Tulsa is better is like would you rather enjoy bumping your head on a wall or getting your fingers caught in the car door.
They have had a super majority of republicans but the usual problems you find more in liberal places, like drugs, illegals, crime are RAMPANT here, yet the politicians get treated like heroes. It’s very simple, if you’re not a farmer or already in the oil family here, you don’t belong. Stay away. There’s nothing here. I’m trying to get out asap this was a huge mistake. Lastly, before I moved here I heard liberal people saying like OK is a racist place and I really didn’t think so but now experiencing it, I’m not so sure that it isn’t. People are extremely judgmental, and a lot of it is age based. When someone is older, they have a proclivity for talking down to younger people. Even if it’s just a slight difference. That might sound ridiculous, but it works the other way too. I would deliver to a hospital and I would always stop at the front desk to receive instructions on whether to go up or leave the stuff there. Someone very friendly, and when she realized I was older she started acting submissive, and would just let me deliver however I wanted. It wasn’t a gradual-comfort level thing, it was a sudden realization that I was older, so I was in charge of it suddenly. It’s a weird habit. Another weird thing is that people really are too gun happy. I’m not anti-gun, but the people here are really strange about it. If I would end up delivering in the rural areas, I would always seem some guy like a neighbor coming out all skeptical of me with my “scary” delivery van with a gun in his hand yelling at me to get off his property that I wasn’t on. This happened about 3 times in different areas. Also in the break room to one of my work places, a supervisor was literally cleaning his rifle. At another job, right at the customer service counter I witnessed another coworker spitting chewing tobacco straight into the garbage can. Quintessential. It’s easy to see why no one outside of OK respects OK. I went into the move here with an open mind, not thinking it was nearly bad as people said it was. I was wrong.
This city is a bad joke. I’d say it’s probably better than living in Oakland, Detroit, or Mosul, (Iraq) to give it some credit. Maybe one day it will turn around but I have doubts. Read Less

Living in Oklahoma 0.5 rating By Anonymous ( Oct 27, 2018) While Tulsa used to be a nice city it is not that way anymore. Low wages and oppression seem to really have folks down. If that is your cup of tea then you will love it here. Not to mention there is roadwork on every block. No such thing here as finishing first what we started. And yeah people just throw their trash around. I guess everyone here has just said "heck with it"!! Everyone says North Tulsa is where all the crime occurs!! Not true!! Tulsa, Oklahoma: A Great Place to Live and Have Some Fun! 4.5 rating By Anonymous ( Nov 25, 2011) I grew up in northeastern Oklahoma and I have traveled to Tulsa many times. We had a real good time.

Another place I visited while in Tulsa is the Tulsa Zoo. It was exciting seeing the different species of animals. We took the train that runs through the park so we did not have to make the long walk to look at the animals because this zoo is huge and there are almost three thousand animals that you can see. The park not only provides the train but it also provides indoor shelters, if the summer sun gets to be too hot for you. We had to go into one or two of these ourselves to cool off when we were there.

One of the newest attractions in Tulsa is the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino owned by the Cherokee Nation. Here you can eat some chicken fried steak or other delicious food at Toby Keith's I Love this Bar and Grill or you can enjoy the entertainment that is playing at the Joint inside of the casino. You will probably want to try out the casino games while you are there but watch your pocket book because not everybody can win. I have found that Tulsa has plenty for me to do as well, great shopping, a great selection of restaurants, and seasonal events like their Oktoberfest in the fall.
