There's no sugar coating this... the property taxes are too high in Milan (and most everywhere else in Illinois). If it wasn't for the property taxes, I wouldn't move. I'll be retiring soon, and I don't want to pay $3,000 each year on property taxes. Everything else is fine in Milan, but you can't enjoy those things if you're poorer than a sewage rat because of the property taxes. The Democrat Party ideology of taxing and spending is killing us in Illinois. If I could leave now, I would.
My wife and I moved to Milan in April of 1989 and we love it. Milan has an excellent police and fire department. If your looking for a quiet peaceful lay back community Milan is the place to live. All though Milan only has a population of around 5000 it is growing every year with new housing and new businesses. If your looking for a community that offers sports bars, and a liquor store. or tavern on every corner Milan is not for you. If you are retired or looking for a place to raise your family in peace and quite you have come to the write place.
