I failed to realize how awful it was for the whole year my son attended. The cracks soon appeared when I decided to enroll my daughter.I first inquired about enrollment for her on Jan 10th of 2018. My inquiry was to Mrs Munson. My daughter was in another area school and performing way above grade level. I inquired if it was possible for her to skip K. Mrs Munson started explaining to me about the process the test she has to take etc. Before she was done explaining Mrs Cheryl interrupted and very rudely interjected “ Every parent thinks their kid is smart, doesn’t mean they are.”I ignored her comment and thanked Mrs Munson.Little did I know it would only get worse .Come the start of the 2018-2019 school year I called to inquire on how to get my daughter tested. This time Mrs Munson said it would be best to talk to a student adviser. She transferred me to who I thought was the student adviser .She very rudely told me there is no possible way for my daughter to skip K and very quickly hang up.Now if you are confused so was I. My husband called and left a heated message for the principal. She called him back and gave him the number to the gifted program coordinator. Now why I wasn’t given this information when I called I don’t understand. So we called the gifted coordinator Dr Reinhardt. After a ridiculous back and forth between her secretary and my husband , with her secretary claiming to be Dr Reinhardt at first and giving him wrong information we finally got the answer. Take her to a particular psychologist to take the WISC test. Here is the problem , despite the esteemed Dr Reinhardt knowing she is only 5 yrs old , she wanted a test only indicated for 6yr old and up. The psychologist she sent us too said no, that is not appropriate the Kaufman battery of tests is rated for her age. So I paid the $425 to have her tested. After over 2hrs she performed at the 99.6 percentile at a score of 137. More than enough to get her into any gifted program.I submitted the paperwork to the school . Waited a week and did not hear anything back. So went there to inquire on the status of the paperwork. But on that day and several other days by phone and in person no one principal / v. Principal was available to talk to me. They were both “not at the school “.So my husband called district and again had to get heated and they told him to send the paperwork directly to Dr Reinhardt. I scanned them and sent them to her secretary. A day later I got a call from the principal to set up a meeting. Within one minute of being at the meeting I knew.... they never had any intention of letting her skip K. They probably thought as Mrs Cheryl had previously commented that I was just another parent who thought their kid was smart. Or maybe they thought I would not be able to afford the test.Or banked on her not performing well.My daughter knocks out 2nd grade work without hesitation, reads at a 3rd grade level yet her teacher at this meeting brazenly claimed she could not identify objects to 10 or count to 10! She could count to the hundreds when she was 2 , in 3 different languages, can add, subtract multiply & divide. Now whether this was done intentionally to bolster their position or was just a failure at test giving I don’t know. She was bored and out of her element in the class so much so that she would get EXCLUDED from the rest of the students in class AND GIVEN TIME OUT FOR ANSWERING QUESTIONS too fast. She would cry all the way home everyday.I moved both her and her brother out of the school. Her brother who was struggling with reading is now performing above grade level.1) Economic discrimination that $425 doesnt come easy to everyone.2) Possibly racial discrimination, why not answer me (Black) but answer my husband (Caucasian)?3) Asking for test she doesn’t rate for, intentional? I think so.4)This was an exercise in futility and they were well aware they would not honor the results. My child just got offered a place at a Yale summer gifted program and is now well settled into her new school. They flagged my negative review on google and more than half of their reviews on Facebook are current and former teachers.Makes one wonder how many negative reviews have they removed?
