Central Business DistrictIs the central business district a big city-like atmosphere?

I enjoy walking and would like an area that includes restaurants, bars, movies, entertainment, etc.
As for housing I am looking for a loft-like building or a high rise; not interested in a single family residence.

Would the central business district be a fit or are there other areas to investigate?
