As far as multicultural is concerned, up until recently it has been known to be tri-culural (3). We bought a beautiful house overlooking the valley, and settled in among the wildlife, views, and neighbors. We've come to enjoy bei ...Read More ng surrounded by spectacular scenery, an idiosyncratic populace, and a wealth of interesting shops and restaurants. What we did not expect to find in this "liberal" bastion was entrenched racism. My wife is a black physician practicing at the local hospital. She has experienced the kind of insidious racism at her place of work that we thought had been expunged in the 1960's. Unless you are a white male, Holy Cross Hospital is as hostile a workplace as one can imagine. As for the town itself, underlying the "liberal" facade lurks an entrenched bias against African-Americans. This has been an unexpected and unwanted discovery. It Tsaos worse than a lot of other places? No. Is it better? Not if you're black. Read Less
