The first president of the US, George Washington built his grand home of wood in Georgian neoclassical style before the Revolutionary War. Today, guides are on hand all over the estate to explain the time period when George Washington and his wife were in residence. Some of the other estate features are the beautifully landscaped grounds and gardens, the tomb of George Washington and the slave cemetery. The only fee to George Washington's Mount Vernon Estate, Museum and Gardens is the $15.00 for adults and $7.00 for children over 5 years of age to tour the home interior as well as the grist mill and distillery. Seniors are charged $14.00 and children under 5 years of age enter free. Guests should arrive at least 30 minutes before their scheduled tour.
