Columbia City's Eagle Tech Academy taught me how to be Creative and Passionate

I moved to Indiana my 7th-grade year and was enrolled at Indian Springs Middle School. At Indian Springs, I was welcomed and was able to connect with teachers that inspired me to live my life boldly and to not be afraid to fail. During the two years I spent at Indian Springs Middle School, I formed relationships that helped me to become independent yet also succeed in school. Once I graduated Middle School and was faced with the decision to either go to the "Main Campus" (Columbia City High School) or Eagle Tech Academy (Project Based school connected to Columbia City High School), it was clear that the atmosphere and culture of Eagle Tech was better suited for my learning style. Within the first week of my Freshmen year, I had met teachers that were more passionate about the subjects they were teaching, than any I have ever seen before. Even the ladies in the front office were passionate about loving and supporting the students they welcomed into the school every day. My teachers took immense care in getting to know each of us on a level where they could inspire and call out the things in our own lives that tugged at our heartstrings. Eagle Tech teachers are not afraid of your questions and will (in a heartbeat) tackle the issues and events going on in America today. I remember the terrorist attacks in Paris, the passing of 9/11, and the 2018 school shootings. These events were talked about with our whole school, we had meetings with our administration about whether or not we felt safe at our school. Within these meetings, our administration and teachers were listening to the concerns we had as students and took note of our ideas. While at Eagle Tech, I was able to make connections with local businesses and company owners that I am still connecting with today. In my weakest times and hardest academic experiences, my teachers were willing to meet with me and talk through the issues and concerns I was having. And, when presented with the ability to write my first book, it was my Freshmen year English teacher Mr. Urschel who was willing to do all of the proofreading and editing. It was my speech teacher who stayed after school every day rehearsing and polishing my poetry in order to ensure that I competed to the best of my ability. With all of that being said and all of the amazing memories I have from Eagle Tech, the classes that I had at the "Main Campus" (Columbia City High School) did not have the same effects. The building is practically falling apart and even the atmosphere drains out all passion from inside of you. Despite my athletic practices there and any major ceremonies, I tried to make sure that I would spend as much time at Eagle Tech as possible because, while technically considered the same time, it was by no means the same school. With that being said, Columbia City High School is currently in the process of building a brand new facility and I believe that this will make a huge change. Eagle Tech and Columbia City High School will become more united and the passion and care poured over me, at Eagle Tech, will hopefully transfer over to Columbia City High school. Athletic wise, Columbia City High School has one of the best Athletic departments I have ever been involved in. Having done Track with Columbia City for 3 years under (now retired coach Robert Fahl) I was challenged and cared for enough to reach the ability to compete in Division 1 track and field at Jacksonville University next fall. Having moved the summer after my Junior year and now attending a school in Florida, I can see how amazing and unique my schooling was at Eagle Tech. I know how to work and collaborate in groups and create original yet extremely academic projects and express myself and my ideas in ways that students in my classes now, haven't even thought of. I have been in practically every type of school out there (homeschooling, public schooling, private schooling, and Project-based) and looking back now, fully consider my time in Columbia City at Eagle Tech Academy, the most growing, enriching, and impactful schooling I have gone through. The fact that leaving Eagle Tech a year earlier than expected, caused me, as well as the administration and teachers, to cry proves that I am proud to be able to represent my former city and school. If you have the opportunity to attend Eagle Tech Academy, do not hesitate because I would go back in an instance if given the chance.
