All high schools in St George offer some colleges classes as concurrent enrollment. Students that take a test and get a passing score can also attend college class at DSU for free. Of course scheduling high school and college classes can be hard. Success Academy is a program that has 40-50 high school students that have a set schedule at the college for classes and return to high school for a few classes or take the other classes online. If a student completes all the coursework the graduate high school with an associates degree. The program is a random lottery draw, as long as you have a 3.0 you can enter your name. There are way more students then spaces and they have a legacy program meaning that if a sibling went to success , other siblings get in automatically and in Utah that can mean a spot is taken up by one family for years. Success is good if you want you child you get free college credit on general edu or basic classes. It works great for the lucky ones that get in.If your child lets say wants to major in chemistry or computer science, it might be better just to take those classes at the college and stay in high school. There also is a computer program called ACE at DSU that tries to pass itself off as success but it is not the same structure and has very few people lave with a degree. Make sure that if are looking for a degree program it is original Success.I have also had 2 neighbors that did success via SUU (cedar City), there are more spots at SUU and more options but it is a commitment of a parent to provide transportation. Also even though all this free college sounds great, if you plan on leaving the state of Utah to attend college , not all credits transfer. My child learned this the hard way.
