South Euclid could be an OK place for families, but you have balance cost of housing versus local government and police challenges. Hopefully in a year or two, new city government leadership will happen, and things will be less stressful. We'll see perhaps in 2027 and 2028. In 20 ...Read More
26, South Euclid is an average Cleveland suburb, which is majority black with an overwhelming white majority control over government and police. The local government and police do not seek ways for outreach to the majority community, and believe everything needs to be done by force through heavy-handed ordinances or police activity. This diminishes opportunities for community. Instead of working with the community, they take a different approach to look for ways to fine and harrass the overwhelmingly peaceful public. They use police not just to prevent or stop crime, but to get involved in people's private affairs and to harrass gardeners, children, and anyone in public space that they believe they can bully. On May 23, 2023, the Mayor (who has been there over 20 years because the political machine keeps her in place) signed an ordinance stating she would use city ordinances to control public freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of assembly, as well as anyone trying to get a petition signed, so she can keep other people from getting into government. She has notoriously sent her police after groups of black children repeatedly, and this has gotten gang leaders convinced they can be in charge as opponents, rather than working things out among neighbors. I have seen police in camoflauge outfits and sniper guns, if they have a conflict with children. The latest has been city parks have a new rule that you cannot bring grocery bags or wear face coverings, the only city in the USA to do this with major city parks. The city put giant five foot high signs all over the parks and the park entrances. There is no help for seniors' daily life and safety. There is no interest in helping seniors in daily life, with grass, snow, etc., just teams of inspectors there to harrass seniors owning property. There is now an annual music festival which is controlled by teams of 20+ police all over the place at a single event and gates and metal fencing everywhere to control entrance and exit. It ends up with an "oppressive" feeling. Property taxes have continued to go up to deal with the government's belief that police and government control is the answer to every community issue. There has been an attempt to create a "downtown" on Mayfield Road, but a number of stores changing and construction has made that difficult to retain. Beachwood and Lyndhurst may be more expensive suburbs, but you do not have same public aggression of city government towards the public that you have in South Euclid, and you have a LOT more dining and shopping opportunities. The 2018 reviewer believing that "police prescence strengthens" as a "good" thing did not appreciate that when that is the answer to every problem in a city, it also changes the character of the city. Being crueler does not necessarily make a city safer.

South Euclid, Ohio is a suburb of Cleveland located near the city's east/northeast side. Though it is surrounded by the other not-so-good suburbs of Cleveland, South Euclid is a gem amongst the suburbs. Locals call it a peaceful and safe community, and the statistics agree. Crime ...Read More
is on the decline in South Euclid as police presence strengthens. The city is geared more towards the middle to upper middle-class, with the housing market being reasonable just like the property taxes.
The nightlife in South Euclid is alright, though many people would agree Cleveland Heights is probably more fun. Shopping and dining are average, with most dining options being franchises. Even though South Euclid in its entirety is relatively bland, the locals love their city and defend it's reputation against any who say it is a bad place to live.
Overall, with a good public school system and being a safe and peaceful community, South Euclid is a good choice for families and anyone who is looking to settle down in the Cleveland area. It's close enough to the city without all the hassle of actually being there.
