Scottsdale, AZ: Booming, Yet Affordable!

Scottsdale, Arizona, lays to the north of Tempe and to the northeast of Phoenix. It is the sixth largest community in the state with about 217,000 people. It has been described as Arizona's Miami Beach because of its active nightlife and resort industry. In many ways, Scottsdale can be divided into two separate communities with Southern Scottsdale attracting working families while Northern Scottsdale attracts many administrators for major industries. The city has been called the most livable city in America because of its terrain, its beautiful weather and its numerous top-rated golf courses and resorts.

Scottsdale's economy is booming driven by the move of millennials to the community. Arizona State University operates a large small business incubator here helping new businesses build for success. Many people own vacation or second-homes in Scottsdale while earning their living in other parts of the world. Most of the city's students attend the Scottsdale Unified School District, which also covers small parts of Paradise Valley, Arizona, and Phoenix. Chaparral High School and Desert Mountain High School are rated in the top 25 high schools in the state.

The city is served by the Valley Metro Bus System making it easy to get around Scottsdale and other communities in the metropolitan area. Five trolleys also make it easy to get around the community. The city also operates an active paratransit service and will help pay cab fees for some residents. The warm dry climate with an average daytime high of 84.7 degrees Fahrenheit makes Scottsdale a perfect place to play outside most of the year. Old Town is a great place to enjoy a shopping spree in one of the oldest parts of Arizona. The city's location to Camelback Mountain provides many hiking and biking opportunities.

The average home price across Scottsdale is very affordable compared to much of the United States. Of course, homes in North Scottsdale are about double those in South Scottsdale. On the average, homes in Scottsdale cost considerably more than homes in much of the United States. While they are slightly higher, many apartments in Scottsdale cost about the national average. Because of the high home values in Scottsdale, the cost of living is slightly higher in this city.
