Oakesdale is one of the smallest schools in Washington. Every student gets one on one time with the teachers when we need help on homework or don't understand what we went over in class. The teachers always make time for the students and work to help the students succeed in graduating high school. Our school has two small buildings. We have both elementary and high school on the same campus. There is a lot more interaction with the older students and younger students than in most schools. The atmosphere of the school is very family like. We all know each other and spend lots of time together. The size of each class is about 11 students. So most of our classes we take are combined with other grade levels. The buildings themselves are getting worn out. We have had many improvements made to the school in the past couple years. The high school building is the original building from when the school was first built in the 1950's. So it has some improvements that it needs but is otherwise in great shape. At Oakesdale, our Superintendent and Principal is the same person. Our administrative staff gets along very well with all the students and other staff members. Some of our teachers along with teaching students coach some of our sports teams. Our physical education teacher is a basketball and volleyball coach. For the past four years our volleyball team have won the state championship. Our basketball teams are also pretty good but have not won first in state for quite a while. Our girls track team has won first in state two years out of the last four, and tied for second one year. Oakesdale has many sports programs, but we do however have to go to Colfax to play football, cross country, softball, and baseball. Oakesdale is very competitive in our sports so every player is expected to have a high grade point average. In the past couple years all of our girls sports teams have won at least first or second in the academic achievement. Oakesdale high school is a great place for learning. We have a lot more learning opportunities than other schools and a great atmosphere that everyone feels welcome in.
