NYC, In Some Aspects, Is Better 3 rating By Anonymous ( Jan 08, 2023) I moved here nearly two years ago from New York. All I can say is, in a way, I would have preferred to stay in New York.

First off, New York is much more walkable than Nashville. If you lived in Nashville, and didn't live in downtown, then good luck walking anywhere. Most errand
...Read More s in the city require a car. Now, I don't mind being driven, but if I have to do it ALL THE TIME, then it's annoying. Walking already feels better, and besides, is much healthier. But no, Nashville's city planners put cars before people.

As well, while crime is rising in New York, it's worse here. The violent crime rate is much lower in NYC than Nashville.

Thirdly, New York has better schools.

Lastly, having good public transportation is key to making any city good. Nashville lacks proper transit infrastructure, making using transit not nearly as convenient as New York. Read Less
The Place has Changed 4 rating By FrasierID ( Mar 20, 2019) I began coming to Nashville in the late-1980's. It has changed dramatically. It was a very well run, growing city with a slightly hip culture, solid universities, lots of great amenities, beautiful land, and a strong church and family culture. Now, I've come to slightly dread my ...Read More visits. It is wildly prosperous and growing by leaps and bounds, but it may be losing much of its heritage as a city of churches and families. It seems to be morphing quickly into Los Angeles East. Very flashy, very fast-paced. Interesting to visit, but I'm not sure it would be as desirable for families as it once was. All subjective, to be sure, but Middle Tennessee generally, and Nashville specifically, is being changed by the influx of people from high tax states like California and elsewhere who will change the culture/politics in ways that many locals will not like. Welcome to Tennessee, new residents, but don't try to change us to become like the dysfunctional places from which you escaped. Read Less

Don't come to Nashville!!! 0.5 rating By Anonymous ( Jul 05, 2018) I'm a disabled veteran who has tried to move to Nashville 4 times and this town is only for the filthy rich or your going to end up in astronomical debt. Housing costs are ridiculously expensive, the local government being ran by Democrats are pushing out it's middle class and ...Read More poor citizens by raising property taxes so high that they are loosing their houses and becoming homeless. The Democrats are making outrageous laws, if your camper or RV is older than 10 yrs old you can't get in a RV campsite, the rent in an RV park is $600-$800 per month plus electricity. They treat the Veterans, homeless, poor people worst than animals to slaughter. The band's playing downtown are slave labor cause they don't get paid by the bars all this is in violation of Federal Labor Laws, yet the Democrats is allowing this to happen. The traffic is bumper to bumper during most hrs of the day because people don't know how to drive and to many people moving there. All Nashville wants is your money and will strip you of your money then spit you out like trash. Everything costs higher than any city I've visited. Crime is going up. Not a place to raise a family. The surrounding towns like Goodletsville and Millersville is just as bad. I won't ever go back to Nashville Tennessee ever again. It's a crap city now!!!!! I'm gonna enjoy hearing when Nashville Tennessee's economy crashes. I've heard so many tourists say they won't be coming back because the prices are way to high and the service sucks, $75.00 a night for a cockroach infested motel room, bed bugs, mice, and rats also mentioned numerous times. My daughter did not have trouble getting into places to hear live music so that was a huge plus. Parking downtown is expensive. This route will take you by the capitol building which you will definitely want to visit. It is smallish as capitol buildings go, but it is beautiful, elegant, and very historic. While in downtown you will definitely want to visit 100 Broadway. Tourists and Nashvillites alike love this area and for good reason. It is chock full of interesting shops and famous restaurant like The Hard Rock Cafe and The Wildhorse Saloon. However, in my eyes this area paled in comparison to the Opryland area. Opryland itself is sadly now gone, but the area still has many amazing must-see area, my favorites which the huge and gorgeous Opryland Hotel and the always entertaining Grand Old Golf.

After my five years of college, I lived in the south end of Nashville in the Antioch area. During this time I became much more acquainted with everyday life in Nashville. Three things you should know about Nashville: The traffic is horrible, the summers are always humid and hot, and the winters are always wet and cold. Anyway, it was during these years that Opryland closed and was demolished to make way for a mall. I was skeptical. However, the mall has proven world class. I'm no shopper or big mall fan, but Nashville can definitely be proud of it. Plus, in my opinion it has the best movie theater in town. I presently live about an hour north of Nashville. We suggest that you try to experience all that you can and take your time with this attraction.

Another trip that we thoroughly enjoyed and still enjoy is the General Jackson Showboat Lunch and Dinner Cruise. This paddlewheel river boat is four stories high. The cruise will take you along the Cumberland River, past many historic points of interest. You never tire of the beauty surrounding the Nashville area. Tickets for cruise packages may seem a little high, depending on how many are in your group. We had my wife and I and our 2 year old and six year old. We paid about $150.00. The baby was free. Nashville, TN

Nashville has always held a special place in the heart of Tennesseans, and the city is gaining more and more popularity on the national stage thanks to the high quality of life that it offers and the amazing entertainment options. As the home of country music, Nashville has an amazing life music scene that is unrivaled in the south. Nashville is also home to a culinary scene that will keep foodies coming back for more. The low cost of living in Nashville always amazes for all of the amazing perks that the city offers.

There is a reason that over 675,000 people choose to call Nashville home. The city has nine U.S. highways and two beltways surrounding Nashville that make traffic jams a relatively rare occurrence. Getting around Nashville by bus is possible on the MTA, but the city's voters historically vetoed plans to expand the public transit options in 2018 since they did not feel that the proposed option would generate a return on investment for the vast majority of the population.

As indicated, country music plays a huge role in the city's lifeblood, and the Grand Ole Opry and the Country Music Hall of Fame are two of the city's most important and iconic attractions. Those looking for entertainment options in the city can also choose to attend a professional sporting event. The Tennessee Titans have been playing in Nashville ever since they left Texas, and the team came incredibly close to winning a Super Bowl only to be stopped at the goal line by the New England Patriots defense. The Nashville Predators NHL team is the city's new darlings, and they play an exciting brand of hockey that leaves fans throwing catfish onto the ice after goals.

Vanderbilt University is one of the top academic institutions in the entire southern United States, and the university is also one of the city's largest employers. The university has a business school and medical school that graduate some of the area's top citizens and leaders. Nissan North America and the Kroger Company are other large employers in the area.

Home prices in Nashville are moderately affordable, but those who choose to live here are blessed with a quality of life and access to entertainment that is second to none. Some of the areas of the city that are popular with home buyers include The Gulch, Germantown, and Midtown. The downtown area is also undergoing a massive restoration project that is transforming the look and feel of the area. Million dollar condos are popping up for sale, and many of country music's hottest young stars are deciding to set down roots in the up-and-coming area.
