Hurricane High School has the most caring loving faculty and staff you will ever find. The teachers deeply want you to succeed and care about your future. There isn't a single teacher there that isn't willing to stay after and help you with something you don't understand. The school itself is beautiful too. And our sports teams have more heart and soul than all the other Washington county schools put together. The HHS community is a safe, welcoming environment that feels like a second home. Hurricane High School is the place to be.

Passionate about curriculum, but not always the students.

Hurricane High School focuses a lot on CORE learning and standardized testing as well as takes a special liking to sports. However, many of the classes that truly teach and give students long term learning are the extra curricular arts programs and regular art programs. This applies to Graphic Arts, Debate, Drawing, Painting, Ceramics, etc. I've noticed that in these classes, kids excell or find a serious interest in art and end up going into higher further education with said classes. Meanwhile, math and science classes are often just needed to graduate so kids take them and simply drift through them without retaining the information. The english classes at HHS have extremely passionate teachers as well in the History Department. Despite children not retaining certain class information, the teachers here truly care about the students and it was, in fact, the Chemistry teacher, Mr. Vick, who made me understand what it's like to not just think about grades. He often preaches "It will never be about the grade because as long as I know your name, I will care about you and not think less of you because of a number or letter". The teachers are students educators and do their best to pay attention when kids are challenged. I believe the school, administration, and county should acknowledge the fine arts departments because they truly are inspiring teachers and kids. But, the teachers through out the school have a desire to teach and make sure kids are cared for.
