I lived here till I moved 2 years ago. This town is in the middle of everything, which is nice. You just have to drive 20 minutes to the mall, or 30-45 minutes to get into Chicago which is awesome. There of course is crime here but that is because Highland is dead middle of all the crime towns. Lived off Ridge rd and Grace st. :-)
