Never Settle for Leftovers 0.5 rating By Anonymous ( Dec 18, 2019) Our great grandparents came from Germany to settle in Troy, NY in 1885.
Troy, New York in the early days before the corruption of politics was a safe place to live.
The current climate is ridden with domestic violence. Most recent:
3 charged with murder of 19 year old girl. Gu ...Read More n violence.
Mother sentenced for killing 21 month old son.
Troy man bear his girlfriends 3 year old son to death while babysitting.
Husband shot and killed his estranged wife.
Quadruple murder-Family killed over Xmas
The list is endless and horrific.
Homes have declined because landlords are out of state renting to low-income families. The neglect of DSS and Housing do not take the time to investigate family composition makes the city additionally unstable. Did I mention the drug houses?
All 350 or more with the Red X are used by homeless or drug dealers.
This City should not be rated as one of the BEST places to LIVE.
The TAXES are one of the highest in New York State. We have a garbage tax to cover the past financial inaccuracies of city officials. Read Less

Located just outside Albany along the Hudson ...Read More River Troy is a small centuries-old town that began thriving during the period of European settlement so long ago. Unlike nearby Albany or the metropolis of New York City hours to the south Troy is a slow-moving and historically preserved slice of Americana nestled in a wonderful northeastern landscape of trees and water.

The biggest downside to Troy that I have found in all my years associated with the city lies in the fact that most people not from there do not realize what sites it has. Passing by Troy on the interstate all that can be seen is the factory and warehouse district. It is a decrepit looking area with some abandoned buildings and boring parking garages. But once a traveler ventures further into town and off the highway the true beauty and appeal of Troy becomes apparent. I love how the small downtown has almost perfectly preserved the 19th Century feel it once had. The main street is full of old churches and homes looking like they came from old-style Europe. There is small concert hall, antiques shops and locally-owned businesses dotting the bustling but calm downtown.

All of that small-town feel does come at a price. Those looking for a big city hustle and bustle with a packed calendar of events will be disappointed and bored. Troy has relatively little in the way of unique restaurant offerings or nightlife. With less than 50,000 people in the city it moves at a slower pace and is focused on a sense of community, not the big-city feeling of being able to get anything you need any time of day. If that slow quaint style is appealing you will feel right at home in Troy, however. Walkways and parks provide space for afternoon picnics and museums and displays show off the city's history for anyone interested. It is truly a place where culture and a calm lifestyle are encouraged, and for those living there it's the perfect way to do things.
