Nice city outside of Boston 3.5 rating By Anonymous ( Sep 13, 2019) I have lived in Malden my entire life and I really like it here. There are nice tree-lined streets, beautiful parks and a recently redeveloped downtown. The downtown area used to be depressing but it has improved greatly within the past few years. However, it is a bit expensive t ...Read More o live in. The schools aren't that good but Linden and Beebe are solid schools. A lot of people praise the charter school here but I personally don't think it's that great. There is a lot of racial and cultural diversity here and people mainly get along and Malden was also voted the best place to raise your kids in 2009 so that's good. There are some subpar neighborhoods and low-income housing but nothing terrible. It's not like a big city. Read Less

I prefer to live somewhere where, with just a look out of the window ...Read More , I can touch trees and stone buildings; where the ordinary things of life are of such a quality to raise your spirits by just looking at them. But I'm rambling, I know. Let's examine the place that I'm talking about: Malden, Mass.

See, here's the thing: if there's any place in the United States that's pretty much ideal to live, it's the East Coast. You've got forests, mountains, rivers, lakes and historic sites aplenty, just a couple hours away. Additionally, if you're a parent, there's no shortage of good schools throughout the entire coast. Malden is the perfect living place for those interested in those kinds of things. Additionally, the town itself is a charming example of quaint, antique-style American architecture. If you're a parent, then Malden is an especially good choice, as it's considered the safest city in all of Massachusetts - that's why I relocated there. All in all, it's not a bad place to live.

There are a few downsides, however. For example, unless you're working out in the town, there's a good chance that your commute is going to be one heck of a lot longer than it would be if you were living in, say, Boston. Also, the living expenses are not exactly cheap - unless your salary is comfortably in the mid-to-high five-digit range, you likely might have some trouble keeping the house or apartment. This may be especially difficult if you're a new parent. Read Less
