Tap water concerns 1 rating By Mack from Michigan ( Oct 30, 2016) Poor Flint. In the 1940s, 50s, 60s it was thriving. Buicks were made, workers prospered. After the Detroit riot of 1967 white flight, loss of revenue, manufacturing downturns, and the loss of downtown businesses the city spun out of control. Not a safe place. Nothing To Do Here 2 rating By Anonymous ( Jan 13, 2015) While living in Flint, MI for 10 years, I have come to the realization that there is really nothing to do in the area. The reason I moved here was to go to school, and I haven't left because I am working on completing a Master's degree. However, after that time, I plan to move. T ...Read More he overall town is quiet, which I like sometimes, but if you want something to do, you have to go to somewhere like Detroit. Some of the buildings in the town are run down to the point that they are frightening. The city doesn't take the time to care for the streets as it wants to spend money on the developing areas on the outskirts of the area.

If you have children, then the Flint Children's Museum is an option. There are plenty of hands on activities and exhibits of older items, like a stage coach that has been made to look like a circus car. That's one of the things that I've found about Flint. There are numerous museums in the city. You can find a museum about science, history and just about anything else, but if you want a nice place to eat or a mall to go shopping, you have to travel about 20 minutes away. Stepping Stone Falls is perhaps the most relaxing place to go, and it's where I spend a lot of time when it's warm. There is a pond in the middle of tall rock formations with small waterfalls at various intervals. This is a town that is going downhill, and it needs a creative touch. Read Less
From The Perspective of Someone Who Lives Here 2.5 rating By Cakegirl89 ( Aug 04, 2013) I have lived in Flint my entire life and I have never been a victim of crime. Is the crime rate high? Absolutely. Flint's poverty rate is extremely high and there is a definite problem in the community with people who would rather take from others than attempt to live honestly ...Read More . Honestly, the majority of violent crime hat happens in the city happens to people who live in the worst parts of town and associate themselves with the worst people.

I resent the previous reviewer even adding his two-cents as he is from Kalamazoo. From my experience, people from mostly smaller towns with less diverse communities come into Flint and experience some kind of culture shock. It is true that the city's median income is much lower than other surrounding cities, there are a lot of abandoned houses if you drive through the neighborhoods. There is barely a tax base so yeah, city property goes unmowed and the state police patrol the streets along wih Flint police.

Honestly, none of that affects the average tourist (and yes, people actually come to Flint and live to talk about it). Most attractions are downtown, where Flint police, state police, and UM-Flint police all have jurisdiction. It is the safest area of the city. Attractions include the Cultural Center which holds the Planetarium, Whting Auditorium, and the FIA, the Crim, Back to the Bricks, and the art walk, among other things.

Honestly, unless you're walking down Dort Highway at three in the morning, or aimlessly wandering through neighborhoods on the city's north side around that same time, it's very likely that you'll never even have a problem. Read Less
Flint MI... a modern day ghost town 0.5 rating By johnnyZ ( Dec 08, 2011) For starters I'm not trying to insult the women who posted the comment about Flint and how she loved it and went to crossroad village, but I'm not sure how anyone could find flint a nice place, and it really pains me to say that.

I've lived in Michigan my entire life, most of it
...Read More in Kalamazoo MI but I've been to Flint many times and let me tell you its a scary place. Yes there are nice parts of Flint but few, Flint holds the most crime per ca-pita in MI and its almost a ghost town. Flints population really only accumulated due to a GM plant back in the day and when that plant pulled out it left like 3/4 of Flints population jobless, since then Flint has just gone down hill. I've honesty never heard of anyone going there for vacation or a weekend get away. I almost have a hard time believing the previous post because she made Flint sound like a cozy little town, and its honestly in about as rough of shape as Detroit if not worse.

The next thing about Flint is that in my experiences there is no nightlife, I would never go walking around Flint after about 7, that's just asking for trouble. With so many people leaving Flint the police have had serious struggles keeping intact, that factor mixed with the high number of unemployed individuals has created serious gang problems.

I love my state Michigan but Flint is in awful condition and i don't see why anyone would have the desire to go there, I hate saying that but sadly it's true. Read Less
Flint, Michigan - A Good Experience 4 rating By Anonymous ( May 31, 2010) While on a recent business trip to Detroit, I took a couple of days to explore the region, and was amazed at the quaint city of Flint. Although Flint, Michigan is only an hour's drive from Detroit, the ambience is a world away.

On the first day of my trip to Flint, we spent tim

My favorite part of this day was entering old buildings, like the post office and the general store, from the early 1900's and enjoying life as it was back then.

Within the city of Flint there are other great attractions to experience. The children's museum is a great place to take the kids. The farmer's market is open three days a week and we found a wide variety of fresh vegetables, fruits, meats, baked goods, and flowers. For dinner, we enjoyed O'Malley's restaurant, an American pub with Irish influence. Cranberries Café was also great for lunch. I stayed at the Courtyard by Marriot and felt right at home, but on my next visit I hope to stay at the Avon House Bed and Breakfast as I've heard great things! Read Less
